Legendary Director K Viswanath Passed Away

Legendary director and veteran actor K. Viswanath passed away in the late night hours of 2nd February 2022 – shocking the Indian cinema industry.

He directed over 50 feature films and appeared in several south Indian films in guest roles. Viswanath was the recipient of several awards in the cinema industry, including the Dadasaheb Phalke Award – the highest honor in this field.

K. Viswanath is No More

Starting from 1965, K Viswanath started directing a long list of films up until 2010. He even made guest appearances in several South Indian films, with the latest being as Rangaswamy in a Kannada film called Oppanda.

For all his works, he received five National Film Awards, seven state Nandi Awards, ten Filmfare Awards South, seven Nandi awards, and a Filmfare Award in Hindi, as per Wikipedia. He was even awarded the highest honour in Indian cinema – the Dadasaheb Phalke Award and the civilian honor Padma Shri for his contribution to the field of arts.

Reports state that he was confined to bed for a long time due to frame aging-related ailments, yet continued to interact with several film personalities at his residence whenever possible. He was famously known for his films being based on social issues – centering caste, color, disability, gender discrimination, misogyny, alcoholism, and socio-economic challenges.

He died at age 92 at his residence in Hyderabad today. Hearing this, several celebrities from the Indian cinema have expressed their condolences on social media platforms.
