Indian Lose ODI Series to Bangladesh Despite Rohit Sharma’s Knock

Despite a fighting knock by the skipper at the end, India lost their second ODI against Bangladesh, eventually losing the entire series. Bangladesh star – Mehidy Hasan Miraj has shone once again with the bat and ball, handing his team a memorable win. Here’s how it went;

Bangladesh Won by 5 Runs Against India

Winning the toss and opting to bat first, Bangladesh didn’t get the start they wanted. A fiery start by Mohammad Siraj has scalped the openers, while Washington Sundar and Umran Malik have taken care of the middle order.

But when Bangladesh was at 69/6, Mehidy Hasan Miraj – the hero of the previous game – shone once again. He, along with Mahmudullah, has added 148 runs in 27 overs, where Miraj remained unbeaten with a maiden ODI century, while Mahmudullah settled for 77 runs.

Together, they have dragged their team’s total to 271 runs – posting a respectable target to the visitors. In terms of bowling, all the Indian bowlers have been equally thrashed except for Washington Sundar, who stood with 10-0-37-3 figures.

And with a target of 272 runs, Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan opened the Indian innings since Rohit Sharma sat out with a thumb injury he picked during fiddling. Well, he has eventually become the only hope of India winning at the end after most batsmen threw their wickets!

Except for Shreyas Iyer (82) and Axar Patel (56), none have stood past 15 runs. And when India was almost on the verge of losing, Rohit Sharma walked in with his injured thumb and tried straightening things. He smashed an unbeaten 51(28) with 3 fours and 5 sixes – but failed to help his team win at the end.

A maiden 48th over by Mustafizur Rahman is a crucial point, where Mohammad Siraj, with the bat, failed to rotate the strike. Though Rohit Sharma took the match so close to a win, he has fallen short of 5 runs! This handed Bangladesh the second win in the ongoing 3-match ODI series, effectively giving them a series win.
