Jay Shah Appointed as the Head of Finance and Commercial Affairs of ICC

From the latest proceedings of the ICC committee meeting, it’s decided that Jay Shah – secretary of BCCI and Asian Cricket Council – will now lead the Finance and Commercial Affairs (F&CA) wing of the ICC.

The F&CA department is tasked with the distribution of money to member countries for cricket development, while the committee will also make key decisions on budget allocations for all the ICC tournaments. Requesting anonymity, an ICC person has said to PTI as;

“Each and every member accepted Jay as the head of the F&CA committee. This is an equally powerful sub-committee apart from the ICC chair.”

Well, Jay Shah is also set to succeed Ross McCollum as chair of the committee at ICC’s next meeting in March 2023. Aside from him, the IPL chairman Arun Dhumal will become a member of ICC’s chief executives’ committee, as noted by ESPNcricinfo.

Both Jay Shah and Arun Dhumal arrived in Australia a week before this ICC meeting in Melbourne. And these developments come just a couple of days after India was knocked out of the T20 World Cup 2022 by losing to England in the semifinals by a grand 10-wicket margin.

Further, the ICC committee has unanimously re-elected Greg Barclay as their chairman of the governing body for a second term, spanning the next two years. He was unopposed after the withdrawal of Zimbabwe’s Tavengwa Mukuhlani, so the ICC Board has reaffirmed its full support to Barclay to continue as the chairman. Speaking on re-appointment, Mr. Barclay said;

“It is an honor to be re-elected as the Chair of the International Cricket Council, and I would like to thank my fellow ICC Directors for their support”.
