PCOD Symptoms and Effective Diet Plan to Reduce it

Polycystic Ovarian Disease(PCOD) is a common disorder that affects women of reproductive age. According to statistics, one in every 10 women is affected by PCOD. It affects the hormones and disrupts the function of the ovaries by forming several cysts(fluid-filled sacks) across the lining of the ovaries. The formation of the egg is hampered, and the regular period cycle is altered as a result. While the causes of the disease are unknown, doctors suspect genetic and lifestyle changes as the main culprits.

PCOD Symptoms 

Several factors can cause PCOD ranging from lifestyle changes to genetic factors and hormonal changes. When they affect the organs, they manifest as symptoms. Some of the major PCOD symptoms are:

  • Heavy Bleeding or No Bleeding: PCOD may cause either heavy bleeding for more than the usual 5 days or doesn’t cause bleeding at all. Both cases pose serious problems.
  • Excessive Hair Growth: While body hair is normal, PCOD causes hormonal imbalance, which increases hair growth on the face, arms, legs, and stomach regions.
  • Weight Gain: Another important symptom of PCOD is rapid weight gain. Bloating in the stomach and digestion problems can also be possible symptoms.

Other important symptoms include stress, depression, anxiety, hair loss, and discomfort in the pelvic region.

How to Manage PCOD With Diet?

Since lifestyle is detected as a possible cause for PCOD, slight changes in diet and life can show good results. However, PCOD cannot be reduced totally; it can only be minimized.

  • Exercise: Exercise can cause movement in the body and increase blood flow to vital organs of the body. It eliminates sweat and flushes out toxins. It increases brain capacity and reduces body weight which is very crucial for managing weight in a pod.
  • Cut Down Sugar Consumption: Glucose can give energy, but excess intake of sugar can cause increased insulin, and women with PCOD are already at higher risk of being affected by diabetes. So it is better to count the amount of sugar you take daily.
  • Fresh Food: Eating fresh foods is highly important for managing PCOD. This includes greens and fruits in a daily platter can make a huge impact on the body. They naturally increase metabolism and cure hormonal problems. Fruits like Apples, bananas, papaya, and lemons are readily available across seasons and help in maintaining a good lifestyle. Fiber-rich foods will reduce bloating and ensure proper digestion.
  • No Processed Foods: Ready-to-eat foods and carb-packed foods are a big NO when you are fighting PCOD. Opt for multi-grains and pulses to add crunch to food.

Along with diet changes, it is important to manage stress and find ways to reach out for medical assistance. Talking about menstrual problems and observing your own body are important in maintaining good health.
